WANGANUI, May 25. The weather was threatening in the morning but cleared beautifully about noon, and Willed out a very pleasant afternoon. The attendance was good and the racing excellent, aud no accideuts, barring a couple of falls without any serious result. Ihe biggest dividend during the day was £4 16s on Rangipai in the Grand Stand Steeplechase. The sum of £3776 passed through the machine, making a total of £8154 lor the two days. Johnston), also started. Man b' Wur at once forged to the front, attended by Bowshot, then came Light, with Voltigeur last. Passing the stand Light led, and the gelding ilattered her backers for some time, until Man o' War made a brilliant run half-a-niile from home, which placed considerable daylight between himself and his adversaries. He seemed to have the race at his mercy: nearing the quortor-mile post, however, Raynor brought up Voltigeur. and the son of Tim Whitiler succeeded in getting on terms inside distance, from thence out one of the finest finishes seen on the course resulted, and the .judge was unable to separate the pair, the verdict being a dead heat. Johnston) 3 130, Swift, lOst 101b (J. E. Laing), also started. The quartette jumped off the mark together, but Dummy was first over the initial ftmce, followed by Britannia, Troubadour and Swift in that order. At the trees Troubadour went on at tbe head of affairs, but at the stand all were - together bar Dummy, who was some three lengths in the rear. Going round again Swift dealt at her jumps, and Troubadour and Britannia made a pretty race of it for some distance until Dummy made another run, but never got quite on terms, with the other two, who were on level terms at the last obstacle. Troubadour lasted the longest, the pace of the Sou'wester gelding bringing him home a winner by about half a length ; Dummy was about a length and a half away third, with Swift a bad last. Rangipai at once assumed a commanding lead, and jumping all the obstacles in faultless style, won very easily without being troubled, Tokanui was fourth, and Glenelg fifth some distance away. Violence did not .finish, Titae, fhnin 19gsec. Dividend,. £4 16s.

SECOND HUNTERS' STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, of SO soys ; second 10 soys from the stake. About two miles and a half. Gentlemen riders. 158. Mr P. Tell Tale led the first, and second -- time past the stand, followed intermittently •by Dick and Fleetwood. The latter took •command half a mile from home, and stalling 'off a vigorous challenge by Dick won all out by half a length, with Tell Tale four lengths away third. Cadet fell at the first jump and Exchange "after the first round, the latter not being persevered with. Time, 6min 40sec. Dividend, £2 19s.
