RUGBY UNION COMMITTEE.

The Committee of tho Canterbury Rugby Union met in the Caledonian Hotel fast evening. Present—Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes (in the chair}, G. Mason, W. Walton, W. G, Garrard, T. M. Buntin and F. Asauith. In reply to a letter from the Auok—nd Rugby Union the Secretary was instructed to state that the Canterbury Rugby Union would be unable to send a team to Auckland this year. The Otago Rugby Union wrote asking for an explanation of tho report in the Lyttelton Times relating to the OtagoCanterbury match. ' The Secret—V was instructed to reply that the C.R.U. dip- f claimed all responsibility for the reports in the papers. The Treasurer Was instructed to send final notes to those Clubs which have not yet paid their subscriptions to the Union. Tho Secretary reported having received from the Secretary of the N.2.R.U7 a letter informing him that the Selection Committee would meet on Friday, 28th, in order that the selectors might witness the play of the Wellington men. The following referees were appointed for next Saturday's matches :—Linwood v Christchurch, Mr F. T. Evans; Sydenham v Kaiapoi, Mr Hiddlestone; Merivale A vMerivale B (President's Cup), Mr C. W. Garrard.

At the Winchester sports on Monday in the Senior Cup competition the local (Waihi) team beat the Colonials (Timaru) by 13 points to 4. This is Waihi'a fourth successive victory in Senior Cup matches.. A match was played at Sefton on Monday between the Sydenham and Kowai dobs, when the former won by 23 points to 8. For Sydenham, H. Robson, Forde (2) and White scored tries, and s H. Forrester kicked a penalty goal, a goal from the field, and. two from tries. For Kowai, Thomas and James Fitzpatrick scored tries, from one of which A. Fleming placed a goal, Besides those mentioned, Donnelly and Thomas for Sydenham, and Vaughan, Flynn, Bailinger and D, Fleming for Kowai, played well. . The Sefton and Balcairn sohools played a match at Sefton, when the former won by 20 points to nil. For Sefton, H. Topp, A. Vallance, Gorrie, Lilley and Falkinder, played well.

At a meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union,, a letter was read from, the New South Walita Union stating they had decided the following fixtures for the New Zealand team, which it was expected would reach Sydney on July Ist:—Against New South Wales, Saturday, July 3rd; Metropolitan Fifteen, 7th; New South Wales, 10th; leave for Queensland 13th, playing at Newcastle the following day if the team travel by rail; return from Brisbane 29th; play New South Wales 31st; leave for Auckland August 2nd. The offer from the Auckland Union to give half the net proceeds of the match against the team at Auckland on their return was accepted. Mr Hyams, Treasurer of the Union, was appointed manager of the team.
