THE CITY MISSION HOME.

A meeting of subscribers to and sympathisers with Herrick's City Mission Home was held at the rooms of the V.M.C.A od Thursday evening to consider the question of continuing the Home. Hbywood, in referring to the work done in the year ending the 31st December, 1896, stated that the number of persons admitted was 1159, meals supplied, inside and outside, 27,817, number of beds made up 9462, gross returns from workshop £96 9s, food supplied £618 18s lOd, blankets given away 58 pairs, lent 60 pairs, cash orders for sundries £289, work paid for £119 ss. Mr Purdib stated that the Trustees had bo control over the management, which had been entirely in the hands of Mr Herrick, and the Trustees only held possession over the furniture and effects, which if realised would not cover the liabilities of £291. The Trustees, however, would not take any steps without consulting the subscribers. They would be prepared to hand over all the institution possessed if the subscribers decided it was advisable tc continue the establishment. The deficiency arose- owing to the season, as at this time of the yeathere was less coming in than at Christmas, and in the winter, at which seasons MiHerrick usually made up leeway. Mr Herrick *was also assisted by «. Board of Advice, who, however, did not interfere in the management. The question was spoken to by the Revs. H. C. M. Watson, «f. J. Doke, R. Erwin, Canon Knowles, Messrs W. Chrystall, C. Hastings Bridge, T. S. Weston, W. H. Hargreaves and Miss Maude, and special reference was made of the indebtedness of tbe institution to Mrs Herrick. .
