At the calling of the card for the Doncaster Handicap last night speculation was particularly keen. The sensation of the evening was the heavy support accorded to the "Victorian representative, La Carabine. Others whowere backed for large amounts were "Vanitas, Fucile, Talavera, Cremorne, Mahee and Wollomumbi. The closing prices were 9 to 2 against Vanitas, 100 to 12_ Reka, 100 to 11 Cremorne, 100 to 10 La Carabine, 100 to 7 Crenie dOr, Aurea and Adoration, 100 to 5 Delaware, Kallatina, Wollomumbi, Talavera, Superb and Fucile, 100 to 4 and 100 to 2 the others. The Cup did not attract any attention, Tom and Battalion remaining favourites at 8 to 1. The final gallops of the Doncaster Handicap candidate attracted a large crowd of visitors. Vanitas, assisted by Devoted and Mac Donald, rattled off a mile and a quarter in 2min 18seo, the last mile in lmin 52sec. Royal Rose and Rockwell finished on equal terms over a mile in lmin 51_sec. Waihiue easily beat the Cup favourite Tom over a mile aud a half in 2min 55sec. Newhaven, ridden out, left a similar distance behind in 2mius_scc. Cremorne on tan took lmin 47£ sec for a mile. Resolute ran over Charge in a circuit occupying 2min 40sec. Akarini beat Creme dOr over a mile iv lmin 49_seo. Aurea in a taking gallop occupied a second lonerer disposing of Coil. Roka is showing small traces of soreness, but did strong work. A host ot other horses were out.

Practically there was no betting to-day, and the prices quoted in the earlier messages to-day are unchanged.

The A.J.C. Autumn Meeting commences to-day, when the Doncaster Handicap and the St. Leger will be run for. Newhaven is said to be back to his Spring form, so there is not much likelihood of the classic race having such an unexpected, termination as the/Flemirigton event. The Autumn Stakes is also run for to-day, and if the beat of the three-year-olds are held for the St. Leger True Blue may succeed.
