Press Atwociatlon—By Telegraph—Copyrfa-ht. Sydney, March 5. Polling day for the Federal elections yesterday was observed as a holiday. The elections passed off quietly throughout the colonies. The latest returns show that the following are the leading candidates: — Messrs Barton, Carruthers, McMillan, Reid, Lyne and R. E. O'Connor, Sir J. Abbott, Messrs Walker and Wise, tbe last two having replaced Messrs Copeland and See, as further returns came in. About 140 small returns are still to come in, but it is almost certain that Cardinal Moran has little chance of being included among the ten. Melbourne, March 5. The following ten candidates will probably be elected—The Premier, Dr. Quick, Messrs Peacock, Isaacs, Deakin and Trenwith, Sir Graham Berry, Mr Fraser, Sir William Zeal, and Mr Higgins. Adelaide, March 5. The Federal elections take place tomorrow. Hobart, March 5. The federal returns are incomplete, but the following are leading :—Sir Philip Fysh, Sir E. Braddon, Messrs Henry, Lewis, Dobson, Brown, Grant, Clark, Moore and Collins. Later. Mr Douglas replaces Mr Collins among the successful Federal candidates.
