Forty-five of the Saltan's wives have been arrested in connection with the matter. December 20. The Ministers recommend to the Sultan, if the Patriarchate guarantee the conduct of a hundred persons, a general amnesty to Armenian prisoners will be safe. The Patriarchate has offered to place the leaders of the Armenian revolt and those condemned to death in monasteries and has induced other prisoners to declare their allegiance to the Sultan.
