THE PUBLIC DEBT.
The public debt at tho 31st March, 1896, is stated in a return laid on tho table of the House to-day to be £43,050,780, and the accrued sinking funds £778,891, leaving the net debt at £42,271,889. The yearly interest amounts to £1,696,002.
