Smith _ .- 15* 3£ Sloman .. _ —6 2 AVood .. - ..84 34 Lowe .. .- _9 5 Jowitt .. , .. ..94 74 Little .. .. ..7 6 It is announced, on good authority, that a well-knoAA m financier of Warsaw has just offered 1000 roubles for another and speedy contest between the great champions Avho have just fought for life and glory at St. Petersburg, Russia. Already invitations have been issued. Mrs Florence Grey, a member, of the London Ladies' Chess Club, claims that the establishment of the club has been of " real utility in combining womanly endeavours." She believes also that it has increased interest in the fascinating game of chess and has enlarged the knowledge of its value for mental training. "It may be true," she aays, "all superior women do not play chess ; but it is equally true that all women who play chess are superior."
