THE KENNEL.

"Weekly Press and Referee." (Mar. sth.) In commenting on the fox-terriers at the Wellington Kennel Club's late show the British Fancier says:—lf few i.-. number quality was not lacking, although Mr Triggs had it pretty well all To himself with a first in every class, and a second and third thrown in, which is not to be wondered at, when among the sires and claim of the winners appear the names of our leading terriers. lh- Triggs has evidently gone boldly m for the right thing, and has reaped j his reward. j The Stoekkeeper in a recent issue says lhat the young sable and white collie Oiinskirk Palmbeaver, winner of the Derby at the Club show, has been sold by Mr T. H. Stretch to go to Australia and*is now on his way to the Antipodes. Mr R. Moate, formerly of Christcliurch, but who has been resident for some time past in Gisborne, writes mc that his Beddlington Terrier dog, Old Pepper, got struck by lightning last November and went blind, when he destroyed him. He still has the bitch Pepsine. The sensible remarks made by the Stoc.'ckreper in its last issue anent the defunct Skye Terrier Club, appeal strongly to the heart of the doggy man. The club, for some reason or other, wound itself up, and those who were members at the time of Avinding up have divided the assets of the club among themselves. This is quite an unprecedented proceeding, and one which does not commend itsoif to good sense nor good taste. The fund 3in hand at the time of dissolution were, we presume, the results of subscriptions made by members of the club for the benefit of the Skye terrier, not for the bonefit of Skye terrier owners. We quite agree with the Stoekkeeper that these funds cannot by any manner of reasoning be retained by those who have divided them. The proper course when a club which has subscribed mouev in hand, is wound up, is for such moneys to be handed over to the Kennel Club to bestow as that body may think fit for the benefit of the particular breed. If the "dividers"

fail to see the force of this reasoning it is to be hoped'the Siockkecper will intervene still farther, and bring the matter before the I K.C. Committee. A Great Dano in Austria lias recently dono an extraordinary performance. His owner took train from Vienna to Klausenburc, in Transylvania, and travelled the greater part of the way by railway. He missed the dog at .Klauscnbnrg. and the first that he heard of him t\»k3 that he hjul jurived at Ul3 homo from which ha had hesn taken three ilftVi after he was lost, the distance th.U he iwd covered having been no less than 450 miles. The punishment which the committee of the Kennel Club meted out to a Miss C. Jones, of 9, Street, Caledonian Road, for abusing and insulting Mr Alfred George, who j udgsd Toy dogs at Brighton Show; will,' wo hope (says a London paper) operate as a salutary lesson to several others we know of who ope' their mouths very widely when a judge does not give them first prize and all the available We compliment Mr George for bringing the case forward. Within our own knowledge several judges have been subjectedto vile abuse afe shows, but have not had "heart enough," as they term it, to report the offenders. Miss Jonee is " suspended from judging, competing, winning a priz2, or taking part at a show or field trial held under Konnel Club Rules/or life," and thus we hope those who get insnlted in future will not consider the offence '" one not worth reporting," as many have done in the past. The Kennel Club properly, we think, regarded the abuse of judges" as an offence of the most serious gravity. >

Ironi Home I learn that the Kennel Club upheld an objection. lodged against Mrs Philip Turner's Larltfield Wannie, winner of a second prize in the variety class at the show held at Gravesond on September 11th last, on the ground that the dog was led into the fey a person suspended by the Kennel Club under their Rule 12. Larkfield Wannie was disqualified.
