THE SOCIETY OF ARTS.

TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PRESS. Sir, —I must congratulate the members of trie Palette Club on the action taken in deciding to join again in the Exhibition of the Art Society. . It was undoubtedly the right course to take, not only in the interest ot the Society, but more particularly iv that of the members' themselves; and I sincerely trust that all ill-feelings wilt now be buried. It is absolutely essential to the success of the artißts that the public should take a large interest in the success of the Society. Without the public take an interest in art, artists canuot make their living by their profession. This is, of course, a mere truism, but it has a most important bearing upon the success in lite of every artist. If we all unanimously put our shoulders to the wheel aud induce the public to support the exhibitions, the sooner we shall be free from debt, when the whole of the income will be available for the purchase of pictures and tbe encouragement of artists in other ways.—Yours, &c, A Member.
