POLO.
The Savile Cup team of the Christchurch ] Polo Club had for adversaries on the home ground on Saturday a team from the Ashburton Club. Though the visitors were, as was expected, quite overmatched, they played au excellent game, and gave the representatives the best practice they have yet had. The teams were —Christchurch— Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes No. 1, Heaton Rhodes (captain) 2, Alister Clark 3. and B. Lane back; Ashburton —Messrs G. A. M. Buckley 1, F. P. Claridge 2, E. Roberts 3, E. Saunders (captain) back. The Christchurch men played with capital combination nearly all through, and scored eight goals, three each being hit by the captain and A. E. G. Rhodes, and two by Clark. Lane, as usual, was very sate at back and make several fine runs. The visitors failed to score, yet were within an ace of doing so once or twice and played a capital game, Buckley beiug particularly effective at times. The attendance ot spectators was much larger than usual, and Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes supplied afternoon tea, The Ashburton team returned home by the afternoon train.
