ROAD BOARDS.
♦ HEATHCOTE. An ordinary meeting of the Heathcote Road Board was held on the 6th inst. Present—Messrs Malcolm (Chairman', Martin, Dale, and Mace. An apology was received from Mr Mitchell, and Mr McUaffie wrote asking leave of absence, which was granted. Mr Andrews, of the Sumner road quarries, waited on the Brjjrd to enquire into the working of the ht>_vy traffic by-law. It was resolved to have a special meeting to consider the matter. A ratepayer in St. Martin's ward wrote asking the Board to open op the River road to allow the water to flow over an old river-bed that was shut off from the main stream some sixteen years ago. As this would neceisitate the erection of two wooden orossinga within fifty-aix feet of each other, the Board decided it could not at present undertake the work. A request was received from the City Council for leave to fence across an unused road in Avon waid. As objections had been lodged by several ratepayers tbe request was not acceded to. It was resolved to obtain a supply of dog collars. The Drainage Board wrote offering a bonus of 2_ per cent, besides commission, if all rates were accounted for before the 31st of Mrrch ; this was accepted. A report was received informing the Board that repairs to the Opawa, Wilson's road, and Burwood bridges had been completed, and the folio wing'works were passed to be commenced at once:—Hillsborough, drainage, estimated coat £50, and concrete channelling to be laid at the south-east of Opawa road. The Finance Committee reported that the whole of the rates were collected, and the credit at the Bank was £860, and recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £800.
