FIRE.

WELLINGTON. February 18. A fire broke out at 4.30 o'clock: thia morning in the Britannia Hotel, Willis street. The names spread rapidly, the whole building being putted and tne contents destroyed. The fire originated in the Oar. The occupants had only time to escape in their night-clothes. The building was cwned by Mr J. Dun, formerly acabinetmaker. and v*as insured for £1000 in the Ken Zealand Office, cf which half was reinsured iv tbe Commercial Union ;furniuire £350 in the South British■»»* Sf 00 } a in the North German ; stock £o0 in the North German. Mr B. Reid, the licensee, and his wife escaped by jumping from a bedroom window, aud both were shaken but not seriously. The other occupantescaped by the fire-escape at the rear of tne building. The earthenware stock of Mr Edward Anderson, on the northern side, was slightly damaged by smoke. The origin *s unknown.
