A RADICAL OPINION.

i 4* —— r The Napier Newt, a red-hot Radical i journal, in an article on the Christohuroh z election, says:—•' The Liberal eleotors oi i Cbristchurch are to be sympathised witb. They are being asked by the Ministerial ) journals to support Mr R. M. Taylor (better known as Sydenham), certain of the Liberal t and Labour organisations having decided 1 they will give him their vote and interest. r We certainly cannot blame the Liberal 0 electors for refusing to support Mr T. EL s Taylor, prohibitionist, and politically epc*k« . ing he is not to be trusted in any Way. 1 Even the Oamaru Mail, a , paper which Iβ r decidedly a prohibitionist advooate, con* demoi Mr X. B. Taylors candidature, aadf

denounces him as a fanatic &nd a faddist. That portion of the democracy which haa joined its forces with Isitt, Taylor and Co. for the overthrow of the Serldon Government, pretends that Mr T. E. Taylor, although a non-party man, is staunchly InberaT. We deny it most emphatically. But having said so much, how can we possibly sanction the support by the Government party of Mr B. M. (Sydenham) (Taylor? Anyone who aaw that gentleman in the House when he was alleged to have represented Sviloubani knows quite well be was the buff-son of ihe Chamber, the bntt and the jeer, not of the Conservative, but of the Liberal Pros of the colony. Much as we dislike the idea of seeing a eeat lost to Liberals, we would, for the sake ot the good name of a grent constituency, and for the ultimate credit of the Liberal cause, far rather ilr Chas. Lewis wasreturnedthananything *o hideously grotesque as the return of •Sydenham ' Taylor should occur." A meeting of Mr Chas. Lewis's Lidies' Committee and the Executive will be held on Friday afternoon nexD in the Central Committee Rooms, Hi?h street. Mr Charles Lewis will speak to-night at eight o'clock at the Merivale schoolroom. Mr T. E. Taylor will address the electors this evening at eight o'clock at the Public School, Waitham.
