It is alleged that the cheque in question was stolen from - a mail bag which the acoueed was carrying, a Other charges of stealing letters from mail bags are preferred.' DUNEDIN, January 28. John Guillimot, a prisoner, undergoing 8 five years , penal servitude, struck Warder - Reardon in the face while employed at the 1 Taiaroa Heads, and was charged with this ~ offence at the Police Court to-day. Guillimot pleaded guilty to the act, but said it was provoked by the ill-treatment of the 'i warder, and ho lost his temper. Gaoler it Phillips offered to produce witnesses, but the H Bench was satisfied that it was not necessary, and sentenced the prisoner to a rednotion of his good conduct marks, equal to six months off his remission.
