FIGHTING BETWEEN NATIVES.
AN ALDERMAN SHOT DEAD.

' News from Noumea states that a party of a hundred New Hebridean recruits attacked about an equal number of New Caledonian natives in the streets of Noumea. Some of them were armed with out-of-date revolvers and carbines, but half a score were wounded and one was killed. The local police dispersed the mob. Tho t-mcute is the outcome of the aversion of the local natives to imported labour. Strong antagonism exists between the Europeans and natives at Kone. Some of the natives attempted to rob a store, when an official shoe one of them dead. Instead of taking revenge on the officer, the natives subsequently returned to the township, and shot Alderman Loquet dead.
