RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL.
On Friday the prize distribution took place iv this school iv the presence of the Governors and a large number of ladies and gentlemeu. Mr George J. Leech, Chairman of the Board of Governors, presided. A programme of music was aone through by the pupils, aud Mrs Sim, Miase* Sim and Moir. of which the duet, "Peace of thy Spirit," by Mra and Misß Sim, waa especially* well rendered; as was also the song*" " Serenade," by Miss T. Moir. After aa interval for afternoon tea, during which' a number of paintings, specimeua of needlework and penmanship were inspected in the olass-room, the Chairman and Mr G. L Sim, M.A., Principal, gave addresses, and the former awarded the prizes aa follows :— Presented by Chairman of Governors, George D*vey and Maud Jones, for writing; by Mr A. Y. Hay, for dux of girla, Freda Blackett; byMrD. Buddo, M.H.R., dux of School, Frederick Westland Farley ; by Mr H. Jonea, beat letter writer, Sar.ih Philpott. Music prizes given by Mias Sim—Mabel Bay ley,' Fred Farley, Mary Davey, Blaucne Relph : singing, T psy Moir ; painting, Katie Donovan. Presented by Governors —Algebra, A. Cunningham ; progress and good conduct, Kathleen Jonea ; good conduct, Gertrude Campbell; English, Charles Cunningham; Latin and history, Arthur Jones; general progress, Hugh Hay. Certificates were awarded to the follow* ing, in addition to the foregoing:—For geography and arithmetic, Thomas sliankland ; algebra and English, Geo. Fowling ; French and composition, Edith Hammon, Edith Whiteaides; algebra and Latin, " Edith/ Hammon; general progress and fancy needlework. Mary Davey; arithmetic and geography, Alice Stapleforth; fancy needlework, Maud Jones; mappiug and composition, George Buss ; history and geography and needle wot k, Nellie Smith'; elocution, Division 11., Alice Stapleforth; -needlework, Division 1., Kathleen Jones ; English composition and geography, Hugh Boyd; English and arithmetic, Orhisby Jones; English and writing, Mary Jones ; progress, Junior Division, Hugh Hay; writing and grammar, Annie Blackett; history and geography, Edith Whiteside; attendance and needlework, Frances Campbell; arithmetic, Norah Jones; reading, Clauds Clayton. Mr Buddo, M.H.R., moving a vote of thanks to the Governors and Principal of the school, remarked that it was fortunati for the district that the Provincial Council' had set aside reserves for the endowment oi schools of this kind. : The Chairman and Principal briefly -aplied, and tbe proceedings terminated, "J
