WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Board Was held on Thursday. Present — Messrt John O'Halloran (Chairman), Howell, Dickinson, and Hey wood. The Returning Officer reported that Mr J. Dixon had been duly elected to represent the Eyreton Road Board District, and Mr Dixon took his seat. The Engineer reported that Mr D, Long, contractor' for No. 9 portion of the'water race, had refused to carry out instructions issued in the letter of the 29th of November re removing 'spoil, and had ceased work; that notice bad been served on him on December 2nd directing his attention to the terms of the contract, and the Board's power to cancel the contract. The Engineer recommended tbe Board to take over Long's contract on the 17th of December provided he fails to proceed with the work as directed. It was resolved that if satisfactory progress, in the Engineer's opinion, is not made before that day the Board directs the - Engineer to take charge of the work and re-let thi • contract. Letters were received from the Oxford Road Board, asking information re Cooper's Creek . race. The Engineer was instructed, to supply the information. From the Bank of New Zealand acknowledging the receipt of £125 interest on coupons due. From Mrs Dixon acknowledging the Board's condolence. Mr D. Long interviewed the Board with reference %o ""irie contract. At the conolusion of the discussion Mr Long informed th* Board that he never threw up his contract, and again after a remark .from the Chairman repeated the statement. Accounts to the amount of £656, including progress payments as follows were passed for payment—E. G. Craighead £225, D. McGrath £200, J. Gandry £140., Tenders were opened for tne following: works at Cooper's creek ; and the following were accepted :—No. 1, J. Thomas, £579 * No. 3. D. McGrath, £630.
