AQUATIC NOTES.
" Weekly Press and Referee."
" Weekly Press and Referee." The first regatta of the season will take place next Monday at Akaroa. The entries do not close until Saturday next, nevertheless, a pretty good idea can be drawn of the .clubs that Avill compete. I fancy Lyttelton will capture the Maiden Sculls, and Canterbury the Pair for non-Avinners. The Junior Race should prove a good one betAveen the Canterbury men and Union, and I should not be surprised if either get home. Good reports reach mc of the Wairewa Youths' Race crew. If they are as good as made out to be they Avill take a lot of beating. Canterbury's crew are going well for this eA'ent. Crosbie and Samuels Avill, after all, be roAving, the former's hand not havum proved so bad as was first thought. They will have to go all they know in the two senior races to beat Chapman and Reed, the Wairewa men. I shall expect the former to win, but not by much. The Christchurch Regatta Club are talking of having an entertainment and dance at Sumner, the night of the Christchurch Regatta, to raise funds for the club. I had a chat witli Mr A. Burns, secretary of the N.Z.A.R.A. the other day on rowing matters. He is of opinion that far more energy is put into the sport here, than in the Empire City. He also spoke of the motion before the Association re the appointment of a sub-committee to revise the law 3. He thinks such should be done at once, for they are a very contradictory lot at present. I notice that J. Y. Daly's name is up on the U.R.C. " new members " board. This looks as if he is coming across the river from the Canterbury Sheds. Messrs Lock Partridge, and A. Burns have been appointed delegates to the N.Z.A.R.A. for the V.M.C.A. and Avon Clubs respectively. "A sculling match for £100 took place on the Thames between Sam Emmett and H. Cornwall .Jon October 21st, when the former won easily. Time, 22min 47sec.
