THE ROSE SOCIETY.

TO Tlf_ KDI-OH OF THE PRESS. Sir,—l would like to say, in reply to " Anti-Humbug's " letter this morning, that Messrs Ross and Leighton did not get W. Jones to defend them. I had no communication with them either direct or indirect from the date of *' Anti-Humbug's" letter till days after I wrote. I can assure you, Mr .Editor, they are not in need of any champion, they are. honest, hardworking business men; they are ou the beat of terms with those who are engaged in the same business, and what they do they do in the open and do not skulk behind a 110 m deplume if. they want to call attention to an error. In fact they are above such mean, vulgar, contemptible conduct. Your' correspondent says I am mixed, but here he proves my contention that he is ignorant of what he is writing about. Let us suppose the conditions attached to a special prize were that there should be four exhibitors, and only three exhibits are staged. In that case the three staged would not be judged, because the number of entries were not sufficient. But this is not a disqualification, and each of the three stands would ba examined for the purpose of awarding two other prizes—1, the premier bloom ; 2, the best set up stand of blooms in the whole exhibits. I point this out, not that 1 think " Anti-Humbug" will be any wiser, but for the benefit of intending exhibitors. In conclusion, I should like to say I know ** Anti-Humbug." He is a man who judges others by his own standard of morality, and his own measure of intelligence, and the Rose Society, Messrs Ross aud Leighton, and myself can do without his good wishes, andean survive' his backstairs criticism.— Yours, &c., W. Jokes.
