THE WEATHER.

Yesterday the weather was still very unsettled, the sun seldom shining, though the rain was not very heavy.

Our Akaroa correspondent writes—The weather for the last few days has been very showery, interfering greatly with the shearing. There is, however, splendid feed for the stock, and tho cocksfoot paddocks give promises of exceptional good results. Heavy continuous rain has prevailed at Timaru since Thursday morning with half a gale from the south. The rivers are already high and rising. There was no sign of a change at midday yesterday. Our Winchester correspondent writes :— We have had thirty-fonr hours' heavy rain, with "very slight intermission, and the Winchester, Waihi, Kakahu and Hae-Hae-te-Mona rivers are ail in flood. The rain will Jo much good.

Oar Geralfliue correspondent writee :— Some real fbod weather has been experienced during the p.\sfc two days, rain falling almost without a break since Thursday morning, and at times coining in & perfect downpour. In constquence the rivers are in very high flood. up till last night there was every indication of the rain continuing. The bitterly cold sou-wester which blew throughout yesterday reminded bne of winter, auu will come hard on newlyshorn sheep.

Our Temuka correspondent writes.:— There has been exceptionally wee weather throughout this district lately. On Tuesday there was a severe hailstorm lasting for over an hour, and rain fell at intervals. Wednesday was fine throughout; the day, but rain set in again at night and fell without iutermiseicu throughout Thursday and Friday. The creeks have riseu, and there are heavy freshes in all the streams. The Opihi and Temuka rivers look v«;ry threatening, and there is every prospect of a flood, although the weather coutmues cold, which will prevent the balance of the winter's snow melting. The rain has been accompanied by a steady southerly wind.
