OBITUARY

MA MARMADUKE DIXON.

The many friends of Mr Marmaduke Dixon, of West Eyreton, will learn with deep regret that he died at one o'clock this morning. He had been for some time Buffering from heart disease and coueestion of the lungs, but was not supposed to be dangerously affected until luesday, when he came into town in order to be near medical advice. H« was taken to Mrs Rowan* Nursinii Home in Durham street, whare he received every care and attention. Dr. Prin* haQ been attending him. The deceased gentleman followed the sea in his early days, but came to New Zealand in the early fifties. Though of Ute years he has not takeu a prominent position in politics, before the abolition of the provinces he was a member of the Provincial Council ot Canterbury. He was always highly respected for his probity, kindheartedness, and devotion to duty. He was a keen observer of nature and was especially fond of meteorology. He was a native of Caistor in Lincolnshire, and wae sixty-seven years of age.
