THE FISHING SEASON.
Some capital sport has been had recently at the mouth of the Opihi. The beat catch was made by Mr S. Bowman, who landed fourteen fish scaling aa average of 31b. The weather has been a little uncertain, and sport has varied, but the rivera have improved very much siuce the last fresh, and on any dull day fish take the fly treely. The Waihi is in excellent order, and some good records have been made with the fly by two visitors at Winchester. The returns from the Ringttata are not very encouraging yet, and until there is a change in the weather but very little permanent sport can be expected. Later on this river should attract a number of anglers, for there is now every facility in the shape of boats and accommodation houses to encourage them. Mr W. J. Alpe caught two trout in the North branch of the Waimakariri weighing respectively 6£lbs and l|lbs.
