THE LOAN BILL. Sydney, October 4. The Legislative Council has passed the Loan Bill through Committee. FIEE ON A STEAMEE. Hobakt, October 4. There was a good deal of excitement on board the Eimutaka on September 6th owing to a fire breaking out in the insulated refrigerating chamber. The fire, which was caused by a trimmer leaving a lamp too close to his work, was extinguished in a couple of hours. The damage which the vessel sustained by the fire will not be known until the cargo is discharged. COLONIAL MUTUAL LIFE ASSOCIATION. Melboubne, October 4. The report of the Colonial Mutual Life Association shows that during the past quinquennium there has been an increase of funds of 75 per cent., and that the profits for the five years are equivalent in reversion to over £450,000. THE RECIPEOCITY TBEATY. Adelaide, October 4. The Premier has laid on the table of the Legislative Assembly the correspondence in connection with the New Zealand treaty. This shows that Messrs Seddon and Kingston, on behalf of their respective Governments, agreed to postpone the date of the treaty coming into operation until a day tc be mutually agreed upon. SOUTH AUSTBALIAN POLITICS. In Committee in the Legislative Assembly on the State Advances to Settlers' Bill, the Premier sought to introduce a clause appointing a State Bank to do the work of advancing. The Chairman held the amendment irrelevant, and took time to consider the point.
