WELLINGTON
Wellington, September 10.
Thft Hiwke's Bay match wa3 not very interesting. The home team did not show to advantage, evidently not exerting themselves. The visitors had heaps of chances of acoriog, but want of combination amougst the backs spoilt them. AH the forwards played well, and in the second ( spell had the best of the game. Roberts try was a bit of pretty play, and Pudney was mainly the cause of Galloway's scoring. Caldwell for the visitors made a fine attempt at goal in the second spell from a penalty kick from halfway, the ball just dropping short. The game was fairly fast throughout.
On the same day a Junior team went to Otaki and played the Horowhenua Union, winning by 6 point* to 5.
£265 8a 63 were the takings at the Taranaki, Auckland and Hawke's Bay matches.
Mr Garrard has given satisfaction to all the teams, I believe, in the various matches he has refereed in the last ten days.
iThe above came to band too late for last issue.—Ed.l
