A meeting of the Committee was held, at which there were present—Dr. Jennings (in the chair), Messrs L. A. Cuff, W. J. Cotterill, H. Frost, T. M. Bunting, J. U. Collins, F. T. Evans, F. E. Asquith, G. H. Mason and VV. G. Garrard. A telegram from Auckland stated that that Union would play Canterbury on the 29th inst. if steamer arrangements were suitable. In other telegrams which had passed between the New Zealand Union, Auckland, Wellington, and Canterbury Unions, it was suggested that the custom now was for the N.Z.R.U. to appoint referees in important matches, and the. Union taking the gate paid his expenses. The Committee decided to protest againat the principle of an outside man being necessarily chosen to act as referee, considering it mo3t inconvenient and extravagant. A letter was read from Akaroa asking if the Union could see its way to send a team to play a Combined Peninsula team. Consideration was deferred. It was decided to recommend to the New Zealand Union that the Appeal Committees in each Island would be the best bodies to select the players for the North and South Island match. It was decided to play Lyttelton v Southern, President's Cup match, at Lancaster Park on Saturday. The meeting then adjourned.*
