INVERCARGILL, Augusta At the Annual Convention of the Southland branch of the New Zealand Alliance to-day, a resolution was passed, "That this Convention protests against the inequitable and unjust provisions of the Government Licensiug Bill, on the ground that it places the settlement of the question of prohibition in tbe hands of 8 minority of two-fifths of tha electors plus one, unnecessarily complicates the ballot papers, retains the provisions for the reduction of the Act of 1893, while destroying the provisions tor the addition to the licenses votes of the reduction votes, practically destroys all chance of carrying no license at any poll by complicating the issues, and is in other raspects opposed to the interest of reform ; also that "the Convention calls upon the 11. EL R.s to vote for the Bill framed by the Alliance and to support its principles • also to endeavour to have the principles of that Bill included in the Government Bill in the event of the Alliance Bill being superseded."
