A meeting of the Courtenay Board was held on Tuesday, July 9th. Present— MeFsrs J. Gough (Chairman), H. A. Knight, J. Dysart, T. Needham, G. Watson and A. E. Davis. A. Gabbatis was appointed poundkeeper as from the 22ud inst. Tenders for reserves were opened, and those of J. D. Hannaut, reserve 1041; T. Hearly, 1051; A. Bailey, 1452 ; R. Fairbairn, 1493 ; and W. Long, 1511, were accepted. Correspondence was read:—From the Commissioner of Taxes, re balance of subsidy due on account of rates collected to June 30th last. From the manager Malvern water-race requesting to be informed whether the Board have any objection to open crossings being made in place of tho presont pipe culverts across Beatty's and Highfield roads ; also to open crossing in the place of the bridge over branch race on Brown's Darfield road. Clerk to reply. From J. Gill, applying to lease or purchase part of Tramway road between his land and the water race. Clerk to ascertain from "the Selwyn County Council whether they have any objection to the whole length of the Tramway road on the south side ot the water race between the Essendon road and the Malvern boundary being closed. From W. W. McClelland, asking to be relieved of storm water collecting in front of his house and garden on ' West Coast road. Surveyor to attend to it. From D. Mulholland, advising the Board of an accident having occurred to his horse and trap while travelling between the railway station and the store at Darfield. Received. It was resolved — That the Board purchase small birds at 4d per dozen, to include larks, linnets, greenfinches and sparrows. The Surveyor was instructed to see Mr Story with reference to the fence he has erected across the Hawkins river bed, at Ridgen's road and Storey's road. Accounts amounting to £57 lis lid were passed for payment, aud the meeting adjourned till August 13th next.
