UNAUTHORISED EXPENDITURE.
The annual return of unauthorised expenditure required by the Public Revenues Act, 1891, was laid upon the table to-day, and includes the following amounts :— Travelling allowance to Ministers £213 10s, freight and insurance on timber shipped to London £903, expenses in connection with Tariff Commission £174, salaries and wages for road contracts on Cheviot Estate £6473. For services in excess of votes the largest items are lunatic asylums £4072, criminal prosecutions £3086.
