THE WINTON BABY-FARMING CASES.
MRb DEAN SENTENCED TO DEATH.
(PBKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) INVERUAKGILL, June 21.
Mr Justice Williams's summing up in the Dean case occupied two hours and a-half. Generally it was adverse to the accused. The jury retired at half-past twelve and in half an hour returned a verdict of " Guilty." When asked if she had anything to say why sentence should not be passed Minnie Dean rose, and in a clear firm voice answered "No, I have only to thank Detective McGrath for his kindness to mc." His Honour then assumed the black cap, aud passed sentence of death, which the prisoner received with perfect composure, and stepped out of the clock apparently the least concerned woman in the crowded Court.
