Alleged Misappropriation.—Archibald McLachlan, late Secretary of the Timaru branch of the New Zealand Workers 1 Union, was arrested on Saturday and charged with having misappropriated £2 10s belonging to the trustees of the Union. Sydenham Poom-ey Show.—The a&noal show of the Sydenham Poultry Society will open in the Mission Sail to-morrow, and will be continued on Thursday. All entries most be at the Hall by 10 o'clock to-night. Mixed Fabmxkg.—At a meeting cf the subcommittee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday, a letter was read from Messrs Mitchell and Turner, offering a silver cup value £5 ss, for the largest and best collection of agricultural seeds. The writers stated that they were offering the prize with a, view of encouraging mixed farming. The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to make the prize a special entry one at the next spring show.

Baskrcpici?s.—There were seven bankruptcies ia the colony last week; a carter, four farmers, a labourer, and a baker. St. Barn-abas, Fu.vdaltox —To-day being St. Barnabas Day, a fall choral service will be held in this church at seven o'cloak, when the offertory will be in aid of the Melanesian Mission Fund. Savagb Club. —There waa a very large number at the Savage Club last night, when Savage W. W. Collins occupied tho chair. A capital programme of music, &c, was furnished and a mosb pleasant evening was spent by those present. Inqokst.—Yesterday an inquest was held at the Courthouse, Kaiapoi, before Mr H. W. Bishop, coroner, aud a jury, of which Mr T. Pearce was foreman, touchiug the death of Mrs Catherine Ruff. After hearing the evidence of Mrs Richards and Dr. H. Compton Parsons, the jury found a verdict of '"Death from natural causes." Service of Sokg.—An excellent Servioe of Songr, entitled "Father, Come Home," was sung by the Crescent road Choir in the Upper Riccarton Wesleyan Church on Thursday last. The Rev. C. C. Harrison gave the connective readings. The proceeds were in aid of the Sunday School Fund. Presentation. —On Thursday evening Mr J. L. Morgan was presented by the staff of the Christchurch Railway Station with a handsome marble clpuk, suitably inscribed, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr Pilkington made the presentation. Native Land Court.—A sitting of the Native Land Court was opened at Kaiapoi yesterday before Mr H. W. Bishop, Jmlge, and Mr Keare Temaira, Native Assessor. A number of sqeceseion claims of minor interest were dealt with. Hoqa Maaka and Taituha Hape were appointed as Trustees for the Wesleyan Church Rβ erve ac the Kaiapoi pa. The business occupied five or six hours, and a fairly good sum was taken in feea. Illustrated Lecture. — The second illustrated lecture on *' The History of the Church of England" will be given in St. Michael'a schoolroom, this eveniug, at eight o'clock, by the Rev. A. W. Averill. The limelight illustrations will be given by Mr E. W. Seager. There will be no charge for admission, bub a collection will be made in aid of the church day school. School Committee. -rr-The monthly meeting of the East Christchurch Committee was held at the main school on the 6th instant. Present—Mr J. Tippetb Smith (Chairman) and Messrs J. S. Williams, D. Lumsden, J. Jamieson, S. Clarke and J. R. Brunb. Apologies were received for the absenca of Messrs Sandstein, H. Allison and F. J. Board. The Head Maatar'a report showed the attendance to have been good. He also informed the Committee that he had served several notices on parents for tbe nonattendance of the children, and recommended that proceedings should be taken againat one householder aa a test oase. Opera House. — There wa3 a very good audience at the Opera House last niglic, when the AVrumbi'4 Gaiety Company gave a change of programme. Iα the first part minstrel items were given by Miss Lem.on and Miss Markham, a Scotch dance by Miss Neilson, and songs by Messrs Prior, Foley and White. In the second part Kerr and Ringsley did a clever little act on their bipycles, Miaa Markhain gave a $Qng and dance, aud J>liss Lennon a song. Messrs White aad Prior gave vocal eketches, and Luella and Driacoli did a, doable trapeze act, The same programme will be repented this evening. Benefit Concert.—A benefit concert, under the auspices of the ' Operative Bootmakers' Society, in aid of one of their members who bas met with an accident, will take place at the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday evening next. Musical items will be given by Misa Weston, Miss Brockets Messra Lovell, Maurice, Foley, Farrant, Empson, Scrimgeour, Price, and the Band. Other items will be given by Miss Spring aud Messrs Hutton and & Hollow. A faroe will conclude tho programme. Sacred Concert, — A sacred concert-, to which no admission fee will bo charged, takes place at the Temple of Tpth tonight, undfr the direction of Mr Fitzgerald Faulkner. The solos will be taken by Miss H. Wells, Miss WeUe, Messrs Youog. Mason, Hickson and Trewerne. Mr C. Buuz, junr., will play a violin solo, and Mr Faulkner tjwo. organ solas. The choir will give several selections, and there will also, be overtures and selections for organ, piano and orchestra. The items on the programme are selected from the vvorks of Handel, Spohr, Rossini, Gounod, &<?• There willte a collection in aid of the caolr fund. The enquiry will be resumed to-day, at 10.30 a.m. Holy Trinity, Avonsidb.— The thirty* ninth anniversary of the dedication of this church was celebrated on Sunday. Matins was said at 7.45 a.m., followed by the Holy Communion. At 11 a.m. the Communion service waa sung to Simper in F. At I Evensong the service used at the last Diocesan choral festival, including the I anthem " Praiae the Lord" (Elvey), wae sung. The Vicar preached at bobli services, which were attended by large congregations. The special offertory, which was for the purpose of clearing off the floating liabilities of the parish, amounted ■to ' £50 7s 10J. This is the third year in succession that the parishioners have been aaked to give the offertory for special purposes, and the earn thus raised amounts :o more than £300. St. John Ambulance Association.— The usnal inoachly meeting of the Committee took place yesterday afternoon in the City Council Library. Present—Dr. Hacon (in tho chair), Mesdames Hacon, Hulbert, Julias, and Nashelski, Misses Bowron and Pheney, the Dean, Messrs Jekyll and S. D. Barker (Honorary Secretary).
