THE WINTON BABY FARMING CASE.
(press association telegram.) INVERCARGILL. June 8. At the Magistrate's Court, Mr Poynton committed Minnie Dean for trial for the murder of Dorothy Edith Carter, and discharged Charles Dean. He said there was no evidence at all against Dean, and that he left the Court without a stain on his character. The police, however, were justified in arresting him, as they did no. know what evidence might crop np. He thought that where a husband and wife lived together and bodies were found buried in their garden, it was quite within reason that the police should suspect the husband of being connected, and had there been any evidence against him at all he would certainly have committed him. Mr Hanlon, solicitor for the accused, admitted that the police had acted fairly and were entitled to credit for the way in which they had worked up the case. Dean shook hands with his solicitor and left. The wife will be tried at the sitting of the Supreme Court opening on Tuesday next.
