ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
On Saturday afternoon a widow named Mrs Catherine Ruff, an old resident, and about seventy-three years of age, died suddenly in her house, Sewell street, Kaiapoi. She had been ailing for some time with influenza cold, but had a short time before her decease been speaking to some of her neighbours, and had sat down near the lire* place. Some time afterwards Mrs Richards, living near, went in and found Mrs Ruff was sitting in her chair, but quite dead. The deceased's spectacles were on the table, and -he had a newspaper in her hand, which it is presumed she was reading <~hen the fatal attack came. As the deceased had been attended by a medical man, it is probable no inquest will be held. On Friday Mr Chas. Jones, basket maker, Rangiora, while cutting willows at Plaxton, met with an accident. The knife slipped and a wound in his thigh was inflicted. He was conveyed to his home by Mr Gerald Coward and attended by tbe doctor.
