(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS. 1 WELLINGTON, June 9. Two young men, named Andrew and David Kennedy, were arrested last night on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to one Louie Smith, who was admitted to the Hospital a day or two ago, suffering from burns. It is alleged that the accused attempted to force their way into a Chinaman's house, in which Smith was living, and that in the struggle a kerosene lamp held by Smith npset, resulting in her olothea catching fire. It is not unlikely that two others, now in gaol, will be also charged with the offence. The manager and other officers of the Midland Railway Company have resigned their positions and taken service under tbe Government. All the takings are being lodged to the public account. The Government is advised that there is sufficient authority under the Act to prooeed with the works, but aa tho Company has declined to hand over the plans fresh surveys would have to be mado.
In the Supreme Court judgment was given in the caße of Black and another v the Government Life Insurance Commissioner, an action to decide whether an apportionment on a policy was revocable The Bench hold that the first apportionment was irrevocable.
