SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Daifield Committee was held on June Ist. Present —Dr. Inglis (in the chair), Messrs Matheson, R. Reid, Mulholland, Whall, and D. Gillanders. The master's report showed an average of 80.7. The Committee decided to give a special prize for the dux of the school; and that prizes should be given to those only who pass their respectivstaudards. Mr R. Reid was appointed visiting member for the month. This concluded the business.

At the monthly meeting of the Little River Committee held on June 3rd, tho membera present were Messrs G. J. Sefton (Chairman) A. Meyers, T. Radford. D. Foley, J. Wright, H. Thomas, and J. Flynn. A resolution was passed to the effect " That as the present Native school building contains ample room for the Maoris this Committee strongly protest against the building being enlarged for the purpose of accommodating European children." It was resolved that a copy of the resolution should be forwarded to the Minister for Eduoatior.

The monthly meeting of the Leeaton Committee took place on Monday. Presen" — Mr J. Barnett (Chairman), and Messrs Andrew Anderson, J. IN aim, and Alex. Webster. The headmaster's report showed the attendance to be affected by whooping cough and sickness. The Progressive Liberal Association forwarded resolutions re the election of Governors for Canterbury College. The Committee unanimously agreed to support resolution No. 2. The Rev. A. 0. Lawry wrote, asking for permission for himself an:, the Rev. W. Grant to give religious instruction after or befor. school hours. The request was granted. Several accounts were passed. At a meeting of householders held in the Kimberley schoolroom, the following were eleoted a Committee for the ensuing year : —Messrs W. W. McClelland, A. Hay, D. Mcßeath, B. Reveley, jun., J. Brown, jun., A. H. Davies, H. McNae. Mr Alex. Hay was appointed chairman. The monthly meeting of the Hornby School Committee was held on Monday. Present —Mr W. Duncan (chairman), and Messrs W. Brown, J. Leslie, J. Corbett, W. Kennedy and J. R. Spicer. The Head Master's report stated the number on the roll was 62, and the average attendance 45.3. It waa resolved that this Committee is of opinion that the members of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College should consist of six members, to be elected by the householders resident within a radius of five miles of Christchurch ; six by the College graduates; and twelve by tbe Canterbury School Committees. Several accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Corbett and Spicer were appointed a Visiting Committee.
