The Chairman, in moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, drew special a'.teution to tho concluding portion of the report, and regretted that there was » division of interest iv tae matter of horticulture. Mr Baker seconded the motion. Mr Jonki addressed the meeting at Rome length on the causes which, in his opiuion, led to the inert condition of the Society md the division of interests, which he regretted. So long, he asserted, as the Society did no educational work, so long would it continue to go down, until it ceased to exist.

The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens said he saw much cause for regret iv tho fact that the Committee had no recommendation to make to remedy tho defects they evidently saw. Ho hoped that the Chairman, before putting the motion, would state if the Committee had any recommendations to make. The Chaikman s»id that the Society had not formally received notice of the retire ment of tho Chrysanthemum Club. Puaeibly tho absence of the notice was an overeight. As to what the Hon. Mr Stevens had said, ho was not aware that the outgoing Committee had any recommendations to rrmke. The Society's position was no doubt due to the apathy of the horticulturists themselves. The Society had also lost a number of ice chicf —perhaps the chief of its exhibitors—viz., Mr Gould. Mr Cunningham, who had got rid of his collection, and Mrs Norman, who had ceased to contribute. Mr Anstey and Mr East had done their best in their limited way to keep up the interest. The Society would l>o glad to receive any suggestions. The suggestion by Mr Jones as to the reduction of subscriptions was threshed nut at the last annual meeting, and by a majority was thrown out because it was Been by reference to tho finances that a reduction would not result in success. He bad uot hoard from the Committee any ■uggpstioce that would better the position of the Society. The election of officers resulted as tinder:—President, Mr H. R. Webb; Vicefres denti, his Honour Mr Justice Denniston, Hon. J. T. Peacock, Messrs A. Carrick, P. Cunningham, M. Murphy, and J. M. Bithiim (subject to their consent); Hon. Treasurer, Mr J. Donald; Committee— Messrs T. Allen, D. Craw, H. Clarke, J. Guntrip, A. Fraser, R. E. M. Evans, D. H. Lawreuce, F. C. East, G. 13. Gundry, \V. A. Carpenter, S. I). Wilson, and T. Palmer ; Secretary, Mr T. Gordon; Auditors, Messrs A. Carrick dud X, E. M. Evans.

Mr Claukk moved, pursuant to notice— "To reduce udulb non-members exhibitors' fees to 6il, aud to admit school children's exhibits freo."

Mr Ai.r.n.N' seconded the motion, which was carried.

The customary votes of thanks concluded the meeting.
