Balmoral, starti g second favourite for the Maiden at Tahuna Park last v\eek, went straight up to and smothered Daisy Bell, who with J. Allan up had been put about as a good thing. Of the twelve others, none made the least show. Whether they could not or would not is a question that time al >ne can reveal. Bilmoral is a son of Pinole Patchen. Daisy Bell* backers, if consistent, got their money back in the second race for ponies. Here she took the lead in the first Hp and won all the way. In the Tahuna Handicap (harness) Berlin Abdallah was not at his best, Rita apparently was over handicapped, and the only question throughout the race was whether Creole would be able to catch Beware. The latter turned into the straight with the lead, but broke bad'.y half-way down tbe home stretch, and Creole won by three or four lengths. Beware ought to have won easily on the speed she exhibited when trottiug fairly, but she galb ped quite half the distance, thereby losing ground and being also deprived of second money, the stewards judging that as she did not trot the 7sovs should go to Rita.

Remnant came home alone in the Novel, Jim Allan giving an occasional whack with the stick to show that she would not break. A curious old mare this is, and having one of her eyes blinded with a rag did not add to the impres-iveness of her appearance. Sail Home got through from scratch in the President's Handicap, but was only in front after entering the heme stretch. Up to that point there were three or four in it —Little Fairy, Greystairs.and Ravens wing particularly. Allan had no interest in the big dividend that was paid. Greystairs trotted very well, and was at once booked as a good thing for the mile race, which he won so easily as to distance all the others. R'ta had an easy win at the finish of the May Handicap. The meeting was a success in every way, the weather being beautifully fine and a large crowd gathering. The track was a little heavy. The trotting at the D.J.C. Meeting is referred to in my racing budget. Ravenswing has been sold by Mr Wis c to Mr J. M Kewen, and Butcher Boy 11. by Mr B. Curtis junr. to Mr R. Rutherford.
