WEDNESDAY'S PRODUCE REPORT.

(by our combibrcial editor.)

There were fewer farmers in town offering grain to-day than is usual on Wednesday, and not much actual business seems to have passed, as far as we can learn.

A few samples of wheat were shown, but in the present excited state of the market buyers and sellers did not appear to be able to come to terms, holders' ideas being gene - rally above the current limits that merchants are prepared to go to.

The state of the Wheit market to-day shows no actual change, although the tendency is still towardj increased firmness. The position of the outside markets is still strong and encouraging, and materially assist in keeping values locally firm and steady. Values today range from 3s to 3s 3d at country stations.

Oats—Although no great volume of business is actually passing, holders are very firm, and prices are gradually hardening, both here and in the South.

Beans are more enquired for, and buyers seem inclined to spring a trifle on late quotations. We think 2s at country stations can be obtained for good samples, and Id to 2d le9s for medium quality lots.

Peas are very dull, and by the Sydney cable advices, we see they have dropped to a very low figure over there, and this will re-act on the market here.

Potatoes are steady, and 20s at country stations is being offered without many responding. Demand from outside sources, however, is very quiet at present.

Chaff is not being so freely offered, and good bright lines, well cut and pressed, command np to 40s.

Clover is unchanged, and medium cowgrass is changing hands at s_-d to s|d, whilst extra good lots command 6i.

The firmness in wheat i 3 causing a more sanguine feeling in nearly all other lines of produce, and the tendency of prices is all round towards improvement, and better values are regardei as probable in the near future.
