THE VANCOUVER LINE.
Sydney, May 21. The Postmaster-General has received a cablegram from the Vancouver agents of the Canadian mail steamers asking if he will allow the Warrimoo to call at Auckland on her return trip, to land the Hon. J. G. Ward. This is believed to be the thin edge of the wedge for getting the Canadian line of steamers to call regularly at New Zealand. VICTORIAN RAILWAYS. Melbourne, May 21. The Minister of Railways stated in the Assembly that unless there was to be a change in the gauge, railway construction might be regarded as at an end for the present. They could not construct lines at the cost that had obtained in the past. PERSONAL. Adelaide, May 21. Mr Hawker, who is reported about to be knighted, is dying.
