Robinson, a email farmer iat Rangitata, vraa- charged with a most barefaced appropriation of 100 of - *'a\-.-. neighbour's ewes jaet before lambing, - clipping off and blotching come .of the brands, and marking the lambs as hie. The defence waa a simple mind—satisfied with an approximately correct count of his flook, and that some one had taken 100 of accused's sheep and filled up the gap from • larger flock. - Hβ waa sentenced thia morn* ing to twelve months , *imprisonment. A . similar sentence waa passed : on . Martin Carrig, a small farmer, who pleaded guilty • to stealing eighteen sheep from' one neigh* bonr and four from another. - Henry Knight, on four charges of enter* ing shops at Waimate with skeleton keys and stealing goods, was sentenced to six months on each charge, to run concurrently. That concluded the criminal session, (FROM OUB CORRESPONDENT.) TIMARU, February 7. The Court is now dealing with the civil case, Waimate County Council v McLean, a olaim for water rates and interest.
