CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
At the monthly meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, held yesterday, v letter was read from Mr W. P. Spence, appealing against the decision of the Ohoka stewards Oα a protest lodged by-him in a race won by Home Bale, at the last Ohoka meeting. The race was for horses that had not won public money. The writer alleged that Home Rule had won public money prior to the Ohoka meeting. Mr Speuce complained that not only ,did the' stewards dismiss his protest, but they al?o retained his deposit. It was decided to ask the Ohoka Club to report on the matter. The Secretary having reported Messrs W. Atyeo, Sf. Livingstone, and W. Barnett for totalisator betiing at the Summer meeting, the v being present, were called upon to oiler any explanation. Barnett admitted receiving £&, bnt stated he invented the sum, with other money, on the totaUsatpr. The other two denied that they were doing totalisator betting business. It was resolved—"That the three "fielders named be warned off for three months."
