THE TARIFF COMMISSION.

(MUSS ASSOCIATION IttlflßAM.) WELLINGTON, February 5. (The Tariff Commission resumed this morning, but at the request of witnesses the Press was not admitted to the proceedings. Mr Batkin was examined with reference to tobacco duties. Mrs Hinsch cavo evidence with regard to the New Zealand wine industry, and Mr Danks drew attention to the unfair competition to which those in the trade were subjected by the importation of coir goods, manufactured in Indian and other gaols. Messrs Read and Fen wick, glass ailverers and bevellcrs, also appeared before the Commission. Delegates from the Wellington Typographical Society give evidence to-night. At the evening sitting of the Tariff Com* mission, Mr H. C Jones, Vice-President of the Typographical Society, gave evidence, and asked that further duties should be imposed on certain articles used in the printing trade. A number of manufacturers and representatives of trades have intimated their intention of giving evidence, but the majority of these will not have their data ready ior a day or two. The Commission adjourned qntil 2.30 p.m. to-morrow. Mr J. McGowan arrived by tho Takapuna tonight, and tho other Commissioner, Mr [Thomas Mackenzie, it expected to-morrow.
