REMOVAL OF SIR R. WILLIAMS.
JVess Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.
London, February 1. The Law Journal asserts that Sir Roland Williams' removal is owing to the fear that he will continue to discharge his duties in the firm and the fearless manner which characterised his treatment of the affairs in connec-
tion with the old New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Mr Hunter, President of the Law Society, says the newspaper agitation with regard to Sir B. Williams's removal is unwarranted, and explains that the Judge's attendance on Circuit is the direct outcome of the Law Society's suggestion on a former occasion that Sir R. Williams's reten-
tion in London to deal with matters in connection With the leading Australian Companies caused a congestion in circuit work. Hβ also asserts that Judge Romer is only acting as temporary substitute for Sir R. Williams, and is quite certain that the allegations of the law journals as to the reasons for Sir R. Williams' transfer are without justification. A correspondent signing himself " Legal Expert" writes to the Pall Mall Gazette stating that the transfer of Sir R. Williams is purely the result of his struggle to become a Judge of the Board of Trade.
Fabruary 2. It is reported thai the Lord High Chancellor of the High Council of Justice wrote to SirEoland Williams asking him to withdraw his statement respecting the New Zealand Loan and
ilercantile Agency Company, and that \e replied that if the pressure was krsistedin it would bo his duty to Polish letters.
