ARRIVAL OF THE TOKOMARU.

The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's fine cargo steamer Tokomaru arrived yesterday from London.via Northern ports and Wellington, and was berthed at the ocean steamers' wharf. The Tokomaru i* a splendid specimen of the latest style of cargo steamer. Her length is 425f r, breadth S3ft, depth 34ft, and her gross tonnage 6237 tons. She has a cargo-carrying capacity of 10,029 fcoua. Her refrigerating chambers will, hold 6400 tons of meat, equal to 84,000 sheep. Her cool chambers for dairy. produce will hold between six and seven hundred tons. She has all the very latest and most approved appliances for the rapid handling of cargo, her nve commodious hatches being served by ten hydraulic lifCβ. She is also fitted with steam capstans and every modern appliance for mooring and handling the-vessel., The water ballast tanks will hold some 1300 tons, while her coal bunkers can hold 1800 tons of coal. The accommodation provided far the deck and engine-room officers is of the beat. It is situated od the main promenade deck and the apartments are roomy with plenty of light and ventilation. The sailors} quarter* are forward, and those of the firemen right alt. Altogether the steamer ia about the finest vessel of her class trading to New Zealand! On the present trip she lands some 900 tons of general cargo and takes in some 40,000 sheep at Lyttelton.. From here she-goes lo Port Chalmers and from thence to Wellington and tiien back to London. She is expected to leave for Port Chalmers on Wednesday. .
