Preae Association—By Telegraph—Copyright St. Petersburg, January 27. The death ie anuounoed of M. Dβ Giere, aged 96. . Nicholas Carlo vltch De Giers was of Swedish origin. At the age of twenty-one he was attached to the Russian Consulate in Moldavia, aad in 1848« was sent to the headquarters of the Russian = troops in" llransylvania during the Hungarian campaign. In 1850 he was sent as First, Secretary of Embassy to Constantinople and in 1853 to Roumania. In 1855 he was attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and despatched with important instructions to the Governor-General of New Russia and Bessarabia. In 1856 he was/created a Councillor of State and appointed ConsulGeneral to Egypt, and after Ivrti years in thesame capacity to Wallaehia and Moldavia. In 1863 he was made Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Teheran. In 1869 he was appointed Minister afc Berne, and in ' 1872 at Stockholm. In 1875 he was apppinted Adjunct to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in 1876 the direction of foreign affairs was altogether coufided to him. In 1882 he became Minfiter for Foreign Affairs.
