Mr Hancock moved the adjournment of the House with a view to debating the scheme for the release of the current accounts belonging to depositors, municipalities, Societies, and other corporate bodies, with :*» view to giving employment to starving thousands. He.,pfoposed_ to borrow six millions at i per cent., in return for getting 3 per cent, from depositors, and 3 per cent, from the Banks.
The Premier considered it too late for the Government to interfere, and satii the proposal would do more harm than, good: \
The motion was negatived, and the House authorised the issue of a quarter of a million of Treasury bills in anticipation of the income tax. The Treasurer does not) anticipate > that it will be neceesary to go outside of the colony for money. The legislative Counoil passed the Salary Reduction Bill, but rejected the Primage Duties Abolition. Bill by 14 to 4.
