WELLINGTON RACES.

(PBBS3 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 21. At tbe Hutt yesterday Golden Plover ran two miles at a sound pace, finishing strong and palling up well. Rosefeldt, North Atlantic and Westmere were spun out over a mile andaquarrer. The trio were shaken up at the flnUh, N>rth Atlantic having all the best of the. flutter, while Rosefeldt finiflhed in front of Westrnere« Lottie finished a fast once round in a very satisfactory manner, and Mahaki and Rangipuhl galloped over two mile*, the former at three-quarter and the latter ac half pace.

Golden Plover executed the fastest once round recorded during last few ft aye in a gallop with Westmere at the Hutfc this morning. The latter was in trouble two furlong* from borne. Mabaki easily defeated Kosefeldt once round, his time, however, being 2£sec slower thau Golden Plover, which beats Lady Zetland's and Lottie's time by abouc A-tec. Lady Zetland had slightly the beat of Saracen over fivef urlongs. Bangipuhi, North Atlantic, Porepo, and Arius put in good work. Lottie was not on the course. Princess May and Dreamland finished together once round.

The following are the probable, starters and rider* for the Cup:—Lottie (Davis), Mabaki (Taylor), Roseieldt(Llndaay), Lady Zetland (Cochrane), Golden Plover (Whittaker), Bangipubi (G. Heed). North Atlantic (White), Westmere (F: Klngan), Princess May (Watt), Porepo (L. Matthews), Arius (Connop).

Allah-a-Dale ha« been scratched for all engagements at the Wellington Racing ClubV Meeting.

The Wellington Boeing Club'a Summer Meeting which opens to-morrow is expected' to be one of the most successful for years. A large number of visitors are Iα town, and there is every prospect of fine weather.

Lottie: and Mahaki are* decided favourites, but there is little money* for either. The stable connections are anxious to get a bit more about Golden Plover, who is at a point longer odds than the other pair. North Atlantic and Lady Zetland are easier, the former owing to the manner in which he finished up his gallop this' morning. Raogipuhi li evidently short of a winding-up gallop or two, but his party are sanguine he will run well forward. Westraere has a small following, and Princess May i* looked noon as a dangerous outsider. Arias, one of the Wairarapa contingent, is nibbled at by the Wairarapa people at long odds, and on his New Year's Day form they think he will fluish among the front division. Rosefeldt appears bright, and though she appeared to disadvantage with Mahaki on the tracK this morning, with silk up she may give a different result. Up to this evening the Secretary of the Wellington Racing Glut* had received nearly £1003 for investment on the machine to-morrow. . ; North Atlantic is now reported to be amiss. x Betting is- stagnant. Following are the latest quotations :— 3 to 1 Lottie and Mahaki 4 to 1 Golden Plover . 6 to 1 Lady Zetland 7 to 1 North Atlantic 8 to 1 Rosefeldt 10 to 25 to 1 the others. There is every promise of fine weather and one of the most successful meetings ever held here.

(fbom oxjb special correspondent.) WELLINGTON, January 21. There are fewer visitors from Auckland and the South this year than usual, bat from Hawjce** Bay, tfanganui, Palmerston North and the Wairarapa there will be fairly representative forces. The weather being flue, with a promise of continuance, there should be capital racing on the opening day of the meeting. The chief event seems open and thera will probable be nine or ten starters, North Atlantic, who registered a very good gallop on Sunday morning, being the only one spoken of as a doubtful starter, having, it is thought, taken a chill after the gallop. However, it is possible that he may run. As far a 9 appearances go, I like the look of Rosefeldt, who, ho wever, has not pleased the work-watcher when galloping over the mile and a distance circuit, which is, of course, less to her liking than a longer Journey. Lottie loose well and so does jady Zetland, and both ' have done pleasing work. Golden Plover has registered a faster gallop- than either, but none have done within 3sec of Cynisca's time, or what-Kent did last year. Hahaki seems vastly improved on his Christchurch looks, and Westniere also looks better. Princess May, too, seems very well. There is every indication that there will be a capital race. To pick one I go for

Mahakx,

and I take Lottie and Lady Zetland to be his most dangerous opponents. Bang! puhl I have not seen. ,

The Anniversary Handicap may be eecored by Drkamjland, Revolution next best. Black and itED and Sr. John ( take for the Nursery, the former for choice. Clarenck and Kapha are likely co fight oat the fiuish for the Hurdle Race. Auroa Is a fine lookiuK borne, who under so light an impost may effect a surpnse. MUBKBT and luhitarata in the Welter read beet. The Hack Kace may fall to either Princess Cole or Umslopogaa3. Dbhtsion In the Disposal Stake* and BtUTOMABTK in the Telegraph Stakes are my f&ucies. If Mercer's filly is beaten it may be by Saracen or Searchlight. Tliere is no betting, but a lot of money has been coming through to the Secretary, Mr Lyon, for investment all day.
