The Courts refused the injunction applied for by the Union Bank to restrain the official liquidator from issuing reports. January 17. The Scotch. Banks have reduced the interest on deposits to 1 per cent., which is tbe lowest on record. Melbourne, January 17. The balance-sheet of the Commercial Bauk shows a net profit for the half year equal to about per cent, per annum, on preference share capital. A noteworthy statement in the report is that the payment of deposit receipts falling due chiefly in 1898 to the extent of nearly half a million had been anticipated.
