DUNSANDEL SPORTS.

New Year's Day was celebrated in the Dunsandel district by the holding of the annual athletic sports on the local domain. The attendance was large, the weather five, the track in good order, and the sports were got off with punctuality and'without trouble, as in no event was a protest entered. In the bicycle races, which were under the rules of the New Zealand Cyclists' Union, there were some, interesting , finishes. The Buinham School Band provided plenty of music; the band boya had races to themselves, aud Mr Cunnidgbam looked alter the amusement of the children. The officers of the day were :—Judges, Messrs P. Allen assumed the lead on the last lap, and won by about 10yds. Giasaey got iuto spcond place on entering the straight, and beat Hill, the limit man, by about a bicycle's length. Five Miles Bicycle Handicap (prizes, Ist Messrs Coates and Co.*s trophy and 40a j 2nd, 20s; 3rd, 10a 6d)— J. Nelson, 150 yds, 1; J. Allen, scr, 2; G. Henwood, 170ydtf, 3. Ten started and three finished. Of the seven who retired two collided and fell. When three-quarters of the distance was completed Allen had got into third position, Henwood leading, and Nelson second. - A big fight ensued over the last lap, Nelaon going to tbe front with a good spurt, closely attended by .Allen, Henwood not improving. At'the second last corner Allen ran wide on to tbe grass, but quickly regained the course. He spurted well, but was beaten by half a front wheel. Henwood was about 20 yards behind.
