NORTH-EAST WARD.
The.election of a member of the City Council for the North-east Ward in place of Cr. W. H. Cooper, elected as Mayor, took place yesterday at the Orange Hall. There was little or no interest taken in the election. The candidates were Messrs W. E. Samuels, T. Gapes, and H. Laing. The result was:—Samuels 217, Gapes 58, Laing 11. Mr W. E. Samuels was therefore declared elected.
